I’ve been writing and performing comedy for almost a decade after “achieving” a degree in ceramics from Edinburgh College of Art. I’ve gigged around Scotland’s clubs, art centers and theatres as compere, support and headliner learning the trade in the trenches. I’ve taken my solo show to London and had the fantastic opportunity to gig in the Middle East. Through comedy I performed in kids theatre shows, in improv show ‘Dance Monkey Boy Dance’ and provided the studio warm up for Eammonn Holmes National Lottery Show. I was briefly in the feature film ‘Festival’. Long enough for my Gran to stand up in the cinema and take my photo! Comedy has provided me with many fantastic opportunities and it’s a pleasure to encourage others to find the confidence to discover similar opportunities for themselves.

Universal Comedy workshops has been a great opportunity to meet interesting people. Recently I’ve run Intergenerational Workshops where we have groups of 16–20 year olds alongside 65+ year olds with the aim of interacting and appreciating each other. There is something almost magical watching over the course of three hours a group of strangers moving from shyness to writing and performing their own comedy sketches. I’m fascinated at the material people create, and it’s exciting to watch their excitement in the creative process.
