CCA 4 Thursday 16th October 4.45-5.46 pm La Terre Parle Arabe (The Earth Speaks Arabic) Maryse Gargour France 2007 / 61 MIns Appearing
on the international scene in the late nineteenth century, the programme of the
Zionist movement was to create a Jewish state anywhere in the world but preferably
in Palestine.
Palestine, as part of the Ottoman Empire, was inhabited by a mainly Arab population, the community divided between Muslims, Christians and Jews.
Then In 1917, the Balfour Declaration promised the Zionist leaders a "Jewish national home", whose creation would however require the transfer of the Palestinian population out of their land.
Using the writings of Zionist ideologues, audiovisual archives, and the testimonies
of Palestinians expelled in 1948, Maryse Gargour combines the roles of
historian and filmmaker to return to the origins of the conflict. |
