The
Other Russians
Mayram Yusupova
Russia ï 2006 ï 52 mins
World Premiere
The Other Russians depicts
the- often forced- departure of ethnic Russians from those Republics
of the former Soviet Union in which they formed a minority.
Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn characterised
it as ́the problem of national humiliationî,
and was deeply saddened that
the Russian government could treat
25 million Russians returning from
former republics as unwelcome
emigrants.
This film sets out to represent the
history of the ́non Russianî Russians
in their accounts of this time- despite
the continued silence of the Russian
government and the governments
of the independent former Soviet
Central Asian states from which they
were driven into exile.
