Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn characterised it as ìthe problem of national humiliationî, and was deeply saddened that the Russian government could treat 25 million Russians returning from former republics as unwelcome emigrants. This film sets out to represent the history of the ìnon Russianî Russians in their accounts of this time- despite the continued silence of the Russian government and the governments of the independent former Soviet Central Asian states from which they were driven into exile.
